Meet the MMA and combat sports journalist ahead of his contribution to the project

"We are a regulated sport without a true regulatory body and that is absolutely incredible if you look at it. The fact that this sport is so regulated and is able to do that without having one defining body at the top to say you have to do that. The promoters are doing this out of the love of the sport and out of wanting to remove the stigma of the underground sport."

Andreas Georgiou is a sports journalist who has covered MMA for several years for publications such as MMA Plus, the Daily Mirror and WhatCulture. He has reported on events and tournaments all over the globe from the top professional promotions to the International Mixed Martial Arts Federations’ amateur World Championships in Bahrain. Along with MMA he has also covered over martial arts disciplines such as Kickboxing and is the host of UK MMA podcast ‘Reflections’ and co-host of sports and lifestyle podcast ‘The Mind Diet’ alongside Vinny Shoreman and Roberto Reid.

Andreas took part in a supplementary podcast for the Beyond the Cage project in which we explored the landscape of regulation in UK MMA in order to provide listeners with background information that will help them to understand the greater context of the situation. The podcast will be released here ahead of the documentary's initial release, but in the mean time, here's a little taste of what we spoke about.

Look out for the full podcast on the BTC site very soon!
